General Workshops
Our general electrical workshop programs provide students with the knowledge and confidence to begin a rewarding career as an electrician!
1. Pre-Master Electrician Training Course (ESA)
The pre-master electrician preparatory training course is designed to improve the qualifications of Master Electricians and to assist those preparing to write the qualifying Master Electrician Examination. This course reviews portions of the Electrical Safety Code, the Ontario Building Code, important legislation, electrical calculations, and common trade & business practices. This program follows the curriculum of the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA).
2. Allan Stewart's Certificate of Qualification Pre-Exam Course
A 24-hour workshop designed to prepare candidates for the Certificate of Qualification Exam administered by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities under the Apprenticeship and Tradesman's Qualification. Students will review all sections of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code and the instructor will Administer practice exams and test questions to prepare candidates for C of Q examination.
3. Service Upgrades
A 20-hour workshop designed to teach candidates how to upgrade electrical panels from fuse to breakers, 60 Amp to 100 Amp, and 100 Amp to 200 Amp. Topics discussed will include; the fundamentals of service requirements, obtaining ESA permits and inspections and safety precautions.
4. Upgrading Older Homes to Current Safety Code Standards
A 20-hour workshop that reviews current electrical safety code standards in Ontario. Upgrading older home to current safety standards such as installation of Arc Fault circuit interrupters, ground fault circuit interrupters.
5. Residential Wiring 101 - Finishing your basement
A 15 hour workshop designed to prepare candidates to wire a basement to electrical safety code standards. The course will educate the students on how to assess and area and apply current codes to maximize cost and time while satisfying inspection standards. Trained professionals in the field will give students the knowledge and confidence to wire a living space in our wiring labs to simulate a work environment.
6. Residential Wiring 101 - Kitchen and Bathroom Renovations
A 15 hour workshop designed to prepare candidates to wire a kitchen or bathroom renovation by upgrading to wiring to current electrical safety codes. Implementation of more effect lighting solutions will give the students the knowledge and confidence to evaluate an area and improve its current condition.
7. Fall Protection, Lockout & WHMIS
This program is a generic overview of ministry standards and certification training will be provided.
8. Basic First Aid and CPR for Electricians
A course developed to train participants to think, react and improvise in emergency and life-threatening situations. In addition to learning CPR/AED, this program will provide you with basic first aid skills and fulfill Workplace safety & Insurance Board (WSIB) Reg. 1101 requirements.
9. Introduction to Networking, Data, Telephone, Cable TV, and Surround Sound Wiring
- Students develop an understanding of different connectivity strategies for linking computers and other devices in a local area network (LAN)
- Acquire knowledge of industry standards for network cables
- Experience through installing cabling, connectors and other hardware components
- Research the history and application of Network Cabling as well as Fiber- Optic Operation.
10. Lighting Control and Smart Home Systems
A 10 hour workshop designed to introduce candidates to radio controlled wireless lighting control systems. Candidates will also be reviewing electrical code standards to help enforce safe electrical practices.
